About Matthew Allton

I am a largely self taught fine artist and photographer.

My early work concentrated on representing landscapes, predominantly using watercolours. These paintings were exhibited and sold at craft fairs and art shops throughout the Midlands.

After attending evening life drawing classes for several years at FE colleges in Nuneaton and Coventry, where I obtained a City and Guilds in Life Drawing, I had a shift in focus to explorations of the human figure. My figurative fine art works are produced using a variety of media from pencil and charcoal drawings, through to pastel, acrylic and oil paintings.

In my youth I had a keen interest in taking and developing my own photos from 35mm film - I'm THAT old!. I then moved to a digital SLR camera and since then advancements in digital photography on phones means that my interest in photography has become ever easier to explore. I am constantly caturing parts of the world around me that I find beautiful or intesting. Photography of the human form began purely as a means of capturing reference material for paintings, but I found the results had a power and beauty of their own, and they now hold an important place in my body of work.

I am a member of the Coventry and Warwickshire Society of Artists (CWSA) and the Leamington Studio Artists (LSA)
