'View from Nairn Harbour'
This painting was executed in Arteza gouache paints on Stillman and Birn beige sketchbook paper. It was painted while I was on holiday up in Cumbria, but ironically from a friends photo who was on holiday in Scotland at the same time. I was inspired by the peaceful serenity and emptiness of the late autumn landscape of his photograph.

'Drinks'
This oil painting was done in response to the second of the June fortnightly art challenge topics - 'Cubism', chosen by one of the patrons on my Patreon. I first had to do some research and get up to speed with the details of cubism and then I set up a still life of a bottle of Kylie Minogue Pink Prosecco, a mug and various drinks glasses. Despite being rather daunting to begin with it was quite enjoyable and freeing and I like the result. Its executed in Daler Rowney Graduate oil paints and charcoal on A4 ish Arches Huile Paper.

'City Lights'
This pastel sketch of blurred city lights on black Ingres paper was somewhat of a departure from the usual for me. It was done in response to the first of the april fortnightly art challenge topics - 'a non monochramtic nightscape' set by one of the patrons on my Patreon. I created it while chatting to the patrons all working on their own projects at the same time. It had been absolutely years since I'd used pastels and so enjoyed revisiting them.

'Adam Kneeling'
This oil painting of a male nude kneeling was done using a reference photo I took a few years ago. It was done using the usual Daler Rowney Graduate paints and liquin, but on a smooth canvas wrapped board measuring 30x40 cms. Unusually it was done over two sittings in early mid April. I wanted to experiment using a brightly coloured orange ground underneath, to see how it influenced the overall appearance of the finished painting. I will revisit this technique in future.

'Adam on a Beanbag'
This gouache sketch of a male nude sitting on a bean bag was done using a reference photo I took a few years ago. It was done using the usual Arteza gouache paints on Daler Rowney Aquafine 300g/m paper. I had been watching a youtube video about grisaille, and I thought I would give it a try with gouache paints. I did a greyscale painting first and added colour in thin washes afterwards. I enjoyed the experiment and will revisit the technique in future.
